Forest School

We are pleased to be able to offer our Reception and Nursery children specialist Forest School provision from Grassroots Forest School. The children will initially be using our school grounds but as they become more confident they will be exploring all of our surrounding green areas.

What is Forest School?

Forest School offers outdoor nature based experiences in which children can build confidence and autonomy as well as develop relationships and attachments whilst learning new skills through hands-on activities in the natural environment.  Forest school, more importantly, is an ethos that exists to support/enrich children's social and emotional development in any outdoor environment.

Through play, children explore and discover what nature has to offer and what impact it has on our physical and mental health.  In the early years especially, it is important for children to develop their personal, social and emotional development as well as their physical development.  All of which are important to enable children to learn effectively.  These areas are developed through climbing trees, using real tools, taking turns as well as playing with new friends. Nature doesn't discriminate and is there for us all to enjoy in whatever way we choose.

At Forest School, children learn about ecosystems and their vital role in the environment and what it means to protect it, the importance of looking after the environment and why our woodlands should be protected.  We learn about animal habitats and what we need to do to make sure they are looked after, much like ourselves as a species.

Forest School offers opportunities for children to become advocates of the natural environment whilst practising empathy and care for each other.
